Salazar Studio Art Glass Paperweight or Marble Description and Item Information Up for sale is this fish marble or small paperweight by glass artist, D. Please excuse any glare in the photos. This piece is small, like a studio glass marble, but it does have a flat, polished base, so it may be considered a mini paperweight. Whatever you want to call it, it is beautiful. The design features an undersea scene with an angelfish. This piece measures approximately 1 1/2 inches across. Unpacked, it weighs 3.0 ounces. This would be a lovely addition to a studio glass collection. Identification This piece is by D. Salazar, thought to be David P. Salazar (there also is a Daniel Salazar who is a glass artist). It is dated 3/91, so it was made in March of 1991. Salazar’s website, he has been a glassblower and glass designer for over 40 years. In 1972, he began working at Lundberg Studios in Davenport, California. Salazar became their chief designer. During this period of his career, some of his pieces were exhibited at the Corning Museum of Glass. Also during this time, Salazar became associated with Larry Selman, one of the foremost paperweight dealers in the world. Salazar’s work was featured in many of Selmans catalogues, and also in books on paperweight collecting. He exhibited pieces at the Tiffany Exhibit for the Museum of Art in Chicago. In 1988, Salazar began making marbles in flower and sea life patterns. One of his angelfish marbles was featured in the April 1988 issue of Smithsonian Magazine. Condition This piece looks great overall, with no chips or cracks. It has very light wear. Terms of Sale 1. Early Chris Buzzini / Bridgeton Studios Angelfish and Millefiori Flowers Paperweight. Contemporary surface decorated paperweight created by Chris Buzzini of Bridgeton Studios. The paperweight has a red and white angelfish swimming amidst vines with millefiori flowers. The design is just below the surface of the glass. Underneath there is a aqua colored sea ground. It is signed on the base “Bridgeton Studios Buzzini’78 F-465″. An early paperweight by one of the country’s most talented glass artists. Note on white glare: Please ignore the white areas, they are glare from the lights. Chris Buzzini studied at Shasta Junior College in Redding, CA and California State University at Chico, CA. While at Shasta, Chris was exposed to glassblowing for the first time by Chris Sowder (1970). Buzzini pursued glassblowing, eventually setting up his own backyard studio. From 1972 to 1975, Chris worked at Orient & Flume Art Glass in Chico, CA. Later from 1976 to 1978, he operated a glass studio Bridgeton Studios in New Jersey with the backing of a collector and a partner. Eventually he moved back to California and worked at Lundberg Studios and Correia Art Glass. Since 1986 he has been an independent studio artist. His designs often sell for several thousand dollars. Large Size: 2 3/4″ diameter by 2 9/16″ high. The base is ground flat. Condition: Excellent condition with no scratches, chips or cracks on the body of the paperweight. There are scratches and some tiny nicks at the base as shown in the view of the base. Signature: Signed on the base “Bridgeton Studios Buzzini’78 F-465″ on the base. The item “Vtg.
