Rare & Vintage FOOTED PAIRPOINT BLUE and WHITE CRIMP ROSE Art Glass Paperweight Which is Multifaceted and has Beautiful Etchings on the Pedestal. (Circa 1970 to 1980) I do see a few flea bites and a few light scratches here and there on this Beautiful Weight. Pairpoint hasn’t done Etched Pedestals like this in over 40 years, at least that is what I was told. This one even has Pairpoint’s Signature Cane in the bottom, see last picture #9. I was also informed that not many of these Lovely Crimp Rose weights by Pairpoint had the Multifaceted Design. The bottom show some negligible shelf wear. I would consider this Amazing Piece to be in Very Good Original Vintage Condition. These Etched Pedestal ones are very hard to find when you want to add one to your collection, so please don’t miss out here. Short History of Pairpoint Glass /. Pairpoint Manufacturing Company started in 1880 in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Libbey established Pairpoint Manufacturing Company in New Bedford to make silver-plated metal mounts for Mt. It soon joined with the glassworks nearby and made glass, silver-plated pieces, paperweights and lamps. Reverse-painted glass shades and molded shades known as “puffies” were part of the production until the 1930s. The company reorganized and changed its name several times but is still working today. Items listed here are glass or glass and metal. Silver-plated pieces are listed under Silver Plate. Southern New Jersey has been called “The Cradle of American Glass” for the same reason that it could be called The Cradle of American Asparagus Farming. There’s a lot of sand in the soil, and sand (silica) is what is melted to make glass. Many of the glass makers migrated to this area from Europe in and around the late 1790s thru the mid 1800s. There were so many in this area at the time, New England Glass, Sandwich, Boston, Gillinder, Pairpoint and Millville just to name a few. Glass factories have been here for over 200 years, but it wasn’t until the late 1960s that someone decided to call attention to it. That someone was Frank Wheaton Jr. Grandson of the founder of Wheaton Industries, one of the biggest companies in glass making. One of my hobbies is collecting Art Glass Paperweights.
