In the early 1800′s, Chico was an important center for gold mining, railroad construction and ranching. By the late 1800′s, Chico had grown into a charming Victorian community. The quaint atmosphere soon created one of the most distinctive valley towns in California. About 1893, one characteristic home with a carriage house was built in the historic Oriental section of town. Located between Orient Street and Flume Street, this site was destined to play an important role in the story Orient & Flume. Early work of the studio was directed toward recreating the silver-luster of iridescent glass of such turn-of-the-century artists as Tiffany, Steuben, and Loetz. In time, this led to their current creations of intricate, three-dimensional design’s encased in clear glass. By 1973 the carriage house proved to be too small for a rapidly growing business and was relocated to 2161 Park Avenue. The work of Orient & Flume can be found in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum, the Smithsonian Museum, the Chicago Art Institute, the Chrysler Museum, the Corning Glass Museum and fine stores and galleries throughout the world. OUTSTANDING Vintage HOME SWEET HOME Frit by ED RITHNER Art Glass Paperweight
outstanding

LOVELY Vintage Motto “HOME SWEET HOME” Frit Art Glass Paperweight by Edward Rithner with Scarce Motif of the Log Cabin on a Clear Ground and 5 Emerald Green & White Ice Pick Flowers below. These Edward Rithner Frit Flower Art Glass Paperweights are Very Scare and hard to come by. Most of these Home Sweet Home weights were created by Millville Glass Makers and did not have the Log Cabin or Flower Motif add like this one has. There are a few tiny flea bites and a few light scratches here and there, but not that bad at all for it’s age. This has a slightly concave bottom that is frosted. The basal rim shows light shelf ware. I consider this Amazing Work of Art to be in Very Good Original Vintage Condition. This Paperweight is a Magnum Size and it Measures 3″ Diameter by 2 3/8″ Tall. Please check pictures for further description. The Stand is not part of this sale and is only used here for illustrative purposes. I will Consider any Reasonable Offers. On this Wonderful Vintage Art Glass Paperweight and Thank You for Looking. Please do not miss my many other lovely Art Glass Paperweight Auctions by various Well Known and Famous Artists. Some of this Wonderful Paperweights Fascinating History. This Art Glass Paperweight is from the late William Gaskills Cherished Collection. Gaskill was a former President of the National Paperweight Collectors Association (PCA) and an avid and very astute Art Glass Paperweight Collector. After His passing, his collection was on loan (for approximately 3 years from 2006 to 2009) to the Museum of American Glass (Wheaton Village) in Millville, NJ, which is now known as Wheaton Village Arts and Cultural Center. Gaskills highly regarded and very extensive Art Glass Paperweight Collection was on display in their most prominent area of the Museum at that time. Just prior to being put on display at the Museum, Lawrence Selman of the Renown L. Selman was commissioned to do an appraisal of the entire collection. Selman is known worldwide for his expertise in the field of Art Glass Paperweights and in 2001, Selman was awarded the honor of being named by the Paperweight Collectors Association, one of the Top Ten People of the 20. Century to influence the paperweight art form. Gaskills collection was considered to be one of the largest gatherings of Antique American Art Glass Paperweights known to be in private hands. In 2009 a family member took possession of the entire collection and it went safely and quietly into storage for approximately 6 years, from 2009 to 2015. In 2016 I was very proud and honored to have had the opportunity to acquire a large portion of Mr. Gaskills Wonderful and Cherished Art Glass Paperweight Collection. If youre a new collector, old collector or just would like a few original well documented paperweights for your collection please stay tuned and watch for my future Art Glass Paperweight auctions. Short History of: Mr. Ed Rithner worked in Wellsburg, West Virginia from 1908 to the 1970s and maybe a bit later. Ed Rithner’s Paperweights are widely known to be unsigned. One of my hobbies is collecting Art Glass Paperweights. I’m a member of Midwest Paperweight Collectors Club as well as the Paperweight Collectors Association (PCA) which is our National Club.
