A must have for the local glass enthusiast! No breaks cracks chips or repairs! William Driver, an American sea captain from Massachusetts, bestowed the nickname “Old Glory” to the large American flag he flew during his voyages around the world. After retiring, he moved to Nashville, TN, and carefully hid the flag until the end of the Civil War. He proudly flew “Old Glory” atop the capitol building when the war ended. His flag is now in the Smithsonian. Few people know his story, but his nickname for the flag lives on! Born in Naples, Italy, in 1884, he came to America before WWI. He worked for H. Fry in Rochester, Pennsylvania, and had a long career at the Morgantown Glassware Guild in West Virginia. He and his family opened their own business nearby Sky City in 1947, focusing on paperweight production. Wheaton has one on display in their museum. Please see the photos for overall size and condition. String tag containing provenance can be removed easily.

FROM A FRIEND Gentile Glass Paperweight with Lighted Antique Ornate Glass Base

“FROM A FRIEND” Frit Art Glass Paperweight. Vintage Art Glass Ball and Antique Ornate Pedestal Lighted Base. Gentile Glass Co. Star City, WV. Rare Custom Assembled Glass Pieces. Vintage paperweight with lighted antique glass base. It is a Gentile Glass Company made art glass piece. This is an older version, bottom is not stamped like newer made versions. Rare earth tone multi-colored interior glass art’muffin’. Center is layered with classic white frit laurel border and lettering, “FROM A FRIEND”. Wear patina is natural and verifies age. The antique heavy hourglass shaped pedestal base has ribbed sides with fine beaded hobnail-like bottom. Center rib has an embossed mark that is hard to decipher but looks like the letter “K” within a triangle. Interior has a stepped. It provides perfect space and fit for paperweight and light. My father collected these pieces separately, putting them together and adding a wired small light with in-line switch. Dad was both innovative and a highly accomplished handyman. Light is not big or bright enough to generate any heat. As a prestigious room night light for. Don’t miss the chance to get this one of a kind art glass assemblage display for your own or as a unique and thoughtful gift for someone special. Very good++; Paperweight shows age patina in the form of a superficial surface scratches and natural wear to the bottom, no chips or cracks. Glass pedestal is near pristine, no chips or cracks, original paper felt protector intact but worn at the edges. Review pictures for condition accuracy and verification. Pedestal has what looks like a “K” embossed at the outside midpoint ring. Paperweight- 1920s-1940s; Glass pedestal- 19th Century. Paperweight = 2-3/4″ tall (7 cm) by 3″ diameter (7.6 cm); Pedestal = 3″ tall (7.6 cm) by 4-3/4″ diameter (12.1 cm). Combined weight = 4 pounds 5 ounces. It is authentic vintage/antique. Images are of the actual represented item- examine pics and read details thoroughly. If description has errors or missing information, polite input is encouraged. Pictures are taken in professional conditions. Minor irregularities and superficial blemishes can look more prominent when otherwise barely detectable to the naked eye. Pictures don’t always show the real condition and beauty of some pieces as when holding it in hand. My feedbacks confirm this. Fast response and secure packing is guaranteed. Customer Service & Support. If an issue arises, priority is given to achieve a quick resolution. I strive to meet or exceed customer expectations. If your experience is anything less, please let me know how I can do better; nothing is too small. My response always polite and friendly with genuine concern to answer questions accurately and resolve issues quickly. Contact me for anything.
