This listing is for a beautiful collectible Josh Simpson 1986 Blue Oceans Glass Paperweight 3-Inch – Signed & Dated. Each item made by Josh Simpson is a unique, one-of-a-kind creation. Josh Simpson’s wife is an astronaut who has taken one of his “planets” into outer space. Josh Simpson makes glass planets and simply put, they are out of this world. The artist crafts the intricate globes in his workshop in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts. He started making them back in the 1970s, inspired after hearing the Apollo astronauts describe the Earth as a blue marble. Simpson has thousands of the planets hidden all over the world, left as gifts for passersby or perhaps someone in the future to wonder where they came from. If you’re lucky, you might find one of Simpson’s glass planets.

This lovely paperweight is in very good to excellent condition. I have posted photos of various poses and in different lighting/atop different display furniture, etc. It’s approximately 1 3/4″ tall x 1 3/4″ wide. The blue & white satellite is attached to a different color blue ribbon with bubbles at each junction. Also, there are other bubbles of different sizes strewn about. There are a few fine scratches which I was only able to see under a loop. Thank you for viewing this item and please check out my other listings. I found this article online about Josh Simpson: Perhaps this is one of the glass planets he planted on a mountain top, hid in a forest or buried at sea. Simpson said his first glass planets were blue, like the Earth, but after he took up scuba diving, he also made glass planets that resembled the view of underwater landscapes. “Planets are the simplest shape imaginable, ” he said. But inside that sphere, you can do anything you can imagine. A passion that still burns. Simpson’s glass planets have put him on the map for his art. Some of his planets have literally left this Earth, in outer space travels with Simpson’s wife, astronaut Catherine “Cady” Coleman, who lived on the International Space Station for several months in 2011. Other glass planets have been planted on mountain tops, hidden in forests and buried at sea all over the world, as part of Simpson’s Infinity Project.
