Entirely composed of a heavy piece of glass with the appearance of a melon and a hue meant to resemble that of celadon jade. This glass contains a flattened base, enabling it to rest atop books and papers as a paperweight. Damage: Age appropriate wear. This piece could use a gentle cleaning. This listing is for the item only. This was very true due to the gorgeous designs that came out of this period. This era focused on women, and the beauty of nature and the pieces were often large. Enamel was a standard material used in Art Nouveau jewelry as the period was more about the importance of the design over the materials used to create it. The Art Nouveau period happened before the start of the first World War, when mass manufacturing took over the production of many products, including some jewelry. Chinese export jewelry became popular during the late Victorian period and persisted until the 1960s. During this period, Chinese craftsmen were considered by far the best in the world. The rich and wealthy would custom-order a piece through their local jeweler, who would send the design off to China to be made and sent back to Europe. This lengthy process was very expensive, making Chinese export pieces highly desirable, then and now. This item is in the category “Pottery & Glass\Decorative Pottery & Glassware\Paperweights”. The seller is “abeautifultimeco” and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped worldwide.

Antique New England Glass Company Millefiori Scramble Paperweight with Rabbits
antique
Comments Off
Antique New England Glass Company (NEGC) Millefiori Scramble Paperweight with Rabbits. This is an antique New England Glass Company (NEGC) scramble or end of day paperweight. It is filled with a wonderful assortment of colorful millefiori canes, twists, and other glass bits. There are at least two different running rabbit canes, one visible from the top and the other visible from the bottom. I believe this paperweight has been restored. You will enjoy studying the variety of millefiori canes in it visible from both the top and the base. The catalog says there are two rabbit canes visible from the underside, but I could only find one. Although many people collect scramble paperweights for their own merit, scrambles are also valuable tools for learning to identify the different colors and canes used by each factory. Please Note: The stand shown in the pictures is not included with the paperweight. It is shown for illustration only. Note on white glare : Please ignore the white areas, they are glare from the light. The New England Glass Company (NEGC) operated in Cambridge, Massachusetts from 1818 to 1888. You can read about paperweights from the New England Glass Company in the book by John Hawley. The Art of the Paperweight – The Boston & Sandwich and New England Glass Companies covers both B&S and NEGC. Size: Just under 2 7/8″ diameter by 1 3/4″ high. The base is ground concave. The profile is relatively flat. Signature: This paperweight is not signed, but I guarantee it to be an authentic antique New England Glass Company paperweight. Condition: Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or scratches found on inspection. I believe this paperweight has been restored in the past. Allan’s Paperweights is owned by Allan Port. If in doubt, please check with me first. Please do not ask me to declare this a gift. This item is in the category “Pottery & Glass\Decorative Pottery & Glassware\Paperweights”. The seller is “paperweights” and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped to United States, Germany, Japan, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Australia.
