Founded in 1978 in Seattle’s famed Pike Place Market, Glass Eye Studio is one of the oldest and largest privately owned hot shops in the country. Now situated in the Ballard industrial maritime district, the studio has become a creative hotbed of master craftsmen, visiting artists, designers and a dog or three. All glass from the Seattle studio is handmade by artists, not machines. This ensures that every piece has its own unique characteristics, just like the artisans that create it. Each pieces is h. Andmade in Glass Eye’s Seattle studios. Inspired by the designer’s interpretation of the solar system, each weight takes a team of 2-3 artists to create. These carefully formed designs use a wide spectrum of specialty colors, dichroic glass, glow material, and precious metals. The entire paperweight measures approximately 5 across. The planetary ball measures approximately 2.25 across. The beautiful design is blown inside the paperweight. Each paperweight contains ash from the 1980 Mount Saint Helens volcanic eruption.
