Italian Murano Glass Aquarium Pair, Fish Blocks, Bookends, Paperweights. This is a lovely pair of Murano glass aquariums, or fish blocks. Each contains one fish, and they have similar colors and sizes. It seems likely that they were intended to be paired together as bookends or something similar. They are not labeled, but based on the style and theme, it seems likely that they were designed by Alfredo Barbini, who was also associated with firms like Salviati and Cenedese at different times in his career. It’s difficult to say which specific firm was involved or during which time-frame the pieces were produced, but they most likely date to mid-century or slightly before. They are in very good condition, with mostly minimal wear consistent with age. One of the pieces has a slightly rough spot, as shown in the photos. It is very small and unnoticeable, primarily detectable by touch. They are very sturdy and well-balanced. The overall dimensions are (for each piece): 4″ wide, 3.25-3.5″ tall, and 1.5 deep. Up for sale is a very large pair of vintage Italian Murano glass bookends made by Salviati. They’re completely blown by hand with exquisite detailing in the form of a pear and a peach with stem/leaf. Each is made with a gold flaked interior, a light blue exterior and have flat sides to do their job as bookends. The pair is in nice condition and the pear measures 6 1/4 inches tall by 3 3/4 inches wide. The peach measures 5 inches wide by 4 1/8 inches tall. PAIR of stunning vintage Alfredo Barbini Murano sommerso glass large heavy (2.5 Kg approx) apple (possibly a peach)& pear fruit bookends. I had the exact same set each piece bearing their original gold foil’Alfredo Barbini for Weil Ceramics and Glass, Murano’ labels as pictured in photos 10-11 dating I believe to the 1950′s hence my confident attribution. Absolutely gorgeous display and beautiful useful bookends. Large and heavy: pear is 16 cm high and apple is 11 cm high approx: weight apple 1.15 Kg and pear 1.25 Kg. Perfect immaculate condition for display-some movement wear frits to base consistent with age and weight but not visible on display. I will post very carefully bubble wrapped, double boxed and tracked & signed for. I have excellent feedback & lots more photographs.
