Vintage, artistic, unique, showy and probably not scarce, people love them and hang onto them. Making them’hard to find’. Harvey johnson from michigan made glass lampworked pieces which he had john gentile of west virginia encase. They were early workers mentioned in jean melvins’american glass paperweights and their makers’ from 1967. They produced a weight that is admirable as the ones produced today. The motif is a simple large somewhat cartoonish’beetle’bug. Magnum size at 3 5/8diameter and 2 1/4 in height. Finely finished base with a checkerboard / cross hatch design cut across the entire base. There is a “JG” signature under the frit ground and Harvey Johnson’s “J” is placed under the head of the beetle. Excellent glass and excellent condition. This particular weight is one of the finest from this pair of workers that i have seen. The item “Scarce glass paperweight vintage. Studio.
