Italian Murano Glass Aquarium Pair, Fish Blocks, Bookends, Paperweights. This is a lovely pair of Murano glass aquariums, or fish blocks. Each contains one fish, and they have similar colors and sizes. It seems likely that they were intended to be paired together as bookends or something similar. They are not labeled, but based on the style and theme, it seems likely that they were designed by Alfredo Barbini, who was also associated with firms like Salviati and Cenedese at different times in his career. It’s difficult to say which specific firm was involved or during which time-frame the pieces were produced, but they most likely date to mid-century or slightly before. They are in very good condition, with mostly minimal wear consistent with age. One of the pieces has a slightly rough spot, as shown in the photos. It is very small and unnoticeable, primarily detectable by touch. They are very sturdy and well-balanced. The overall dimensions are (for each piece): 4″ wide, 3.25-3.5″ tall, and 1.5 deep.
