This is a truly superb Millefiori weight, each “cane” in the Bunch of Flowers Millefiori pattern is what one would call a complex one – they aren’t “simple” examples – it is paperweight perfection on a grand scale (I have tried to put a large selection of pictures of the weight so you can judge the execution yourself). These complex canes sit on a base of white “lace”. It consists of brightly colored complex millefiori canes in concentric circles, four large spaced canes around the edges, a square of twists with four green clichy type roses in the corners on a translucent ocean blue ground. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, etc. And measures 3 1/4″ diameter x 2 1/2″ tall. It retains it’s original label and has a cane in the base reading “JHD 2019″. Here we have a gorgeous and rare pair of antique Uranium Punch and Judy paperweights! These are rare to find, especially with frosted glass as most tend to be found in a clear green colour. They were made by John Derbyshire & Co c1873-76 and are fully stamped to the underneath. A pair of these (not frosted) can be found in the Victoria & Albert museum, if you check out their website there is some interesting information about them on there. They are very quirky objects, great decorative pieces that glow wonderfully when under UV light as shown. Each measures approximately 6.75 inches by 4.5 inches and combined they weigh just over 1.5kgs. These are wonderful rare pieces of glass, perfect for the collector of Uranium, John Derbyshire or Victorian glassware. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
