DESCRIPTION: Vintage 3 cast iron figural dog desk or countertop paperweight that doubles as a string holder for a magnifying glass. We have seen these with pencil attached, but not with a magnifying glass attached. We assume businesses used these so customers would not walk off with their pencil or magnifying glass! This may explain why this piece has some paint chips. We found no makers marks. We have seen people refer to makers such as Hubley & Spencer, but we have no way of knowing who exactly made this piece. The sappy looking puppy dog is a creamy-white color, it was not easy to capture the exact coloring in photos. He also has black paint highlights for his eyes, nose, mouth and paws, so not all those black spots on his paws are paint chips, but a few are. However, he does have quite a few paint chips on other areas as you can see in the photos. The magnifying glass is a yellowish-green color with sage-green colored string with two beads.
