These are excellent, very early examples of Steven Smyers work. Pieces are from his beginning years at Northern Star Glass. Pieces are numbered as they were done each year. These are numbers 25 & 37 done in 1974. They show a learning progression of glass blowing and represent early works. The first piece is G25.74. This is the blue snakeskin paperweight. Definitely a glass pulling technique combined with an iridescent glaze used to produce the metallic looking scales. See photos for details. The second piece is G37.74. This is the blue white and gold cloud like paperweight. Another very interesting technique was used to produce the blue and whit cloud effect with the gold dots raining around the whole piece. Both paperweights are 2.5 tall and 3 wide. Both pieces are signed on bottom with the piece number, SS and N Star G. See photos for exact markings of each piece.
