Exquisite LALIQUE Vintage Frosted Glass Collectable paperweight OWL (chouette, hibou). This has sometimes been called an Hibou (owl), although Chouettes normally have no egrets on their heads (like little ears) and the Hibou does. Beautiful Vintage Lalique Chouette Owl is in lovely condition with its label still around the horizontal lower edge of the piece: see photos. It is signed vertically near the wing on the unfrosted crystal glass integral cylindrical pedestal on which our owl perches presiding over his prize: the papers which he jealously protects as your paperweight. The signature is engraved in joined-up writing script into the pedestal portion: Lalique France. Era circa1960 – very unlikely to be later than 1972. Diameter at base 33mm (3.3cms). There are some superficial age-markings around the label edges. These are not in the crystal but seem part of the label. No attempt to remove or interfere with them, they are’as found’. No chips or markings have been discerned elsewhere other than small unidentified marks which may be superficial or even just’dirt’ between the claws, and seemingly 2 almost invisible’hairline scratches on the underside (see below regarding scratches). The casting of / around the eyes shows some irregularities during the casting process and are an intrinsic aspect of the piece. This does not detract from the individual character of this very special piece. Overall impression is of almost perfect condition. Under a magnifying glass and careful lighting a couple of scratches finer than a hair, on the underside, and some interesting casting effects slight movement of the molten glass perhaps during casting? And what seems to be a total of two miniscule bubbles within the piece itself can be discerned. The small irregularities have been taken into consideration in pricing this adorable piece of Vintage Lalique. Chouette/Hibou has been lovingly cared for in a single family and its condition is remarkable. Wherever possible, recycled materials will be used as a matter of course.
