It measures 1.38″ (h) x 2″ (w), it weighs 7.5oz, and it’s made up of multi-colored striped millefiori segments. It has scratches, dings, and chips (shown in the pictures). Still a very beautiful piece, made during the classic period of paperweight making.

Baccarat Macédoine Millefiori Paperweight Modern

Modern Baccarat Macédoine Millefiori Paperweight. This paperweight is made up of multi-colored striped millefiori segments arranged at (mostly) right angles. This is a contemporary paperweight made for only a short time. It is acid etched with the Baccarat signature on the base. This is a great example of a unique Baccarat design. The Macédoine is a uniquely Baccarat style in which the short sections of latticinio (twists, filigree, lace) are arranged in a quilt-like pattern with many of the sections at right angles to each other. The modern version was produced in the 1950s – 1970s and is similar to yet different from the antique version. Please Note: The stand shown in the pictures is not included with the paperweight. It is shown for illustration only. Note on white glare : Please ignore the white areas, they are glare from the light. Baccarat was founded in 1776 in Alsace-Lorraine with the name of Verrerie de Sainte Anne. The original location was near the town of Baccarat. Today the firm is known as Compagnie des Cristalleries de Baccarat. In 1952, Paul Jokelson approached Baccarat with the idea of making sulphide paperweights again. In 1953 Baccarat resumed paperweight production with a series of sulphide paperweights the first of which were the unsuccessful Eisenhower sulphide followed by the Queen Elizabeth coronation sulphide. Millefiori paperweight production was resumed in 1957 and lampwork paperweights were re-introduced in the early 1970s. Baccarat stopped making this type of fine glass paperweights in 2002. You can read more about the Baccarat paperweights in his book Baccarat Paperweights – two centuries of beauty by Paul Dunlop or one of the older books on paperweights in general, such as The Encyclopedia of Glass Paperweights by Paul Hollister or World Paperweights by Robert Hall. Large size: 2 7/8″ diameter by just over 2 1/8″ high. The base is polished flat. Condition: Excellent condition with no scratches, chips or cracks. Baccarat France MACEDOINE Paperweight Excellent Condition. Macedoine weights have the appeal of canes stirred randomly in a pleasing pattern of color and light enclosed in the typically brilliant glass that is distinctively Baccarat. These colors are unusually beautiful, jewel tones of royal blue, crisp mint green, deep pink, rose, violet and white plus others interspersed as well. The multiple canes are well packed and pleasing in their positioning. The Baccarat identity design logo can be seen etched in the base of the weight. This is a lovely paper weight and its magnification and clarity are excellent. The colors are much brighter in natural light than my photos show. Traders of Lost Art. Rare Vintage Circa 1850 Baccarat Macedoine Scrambled Millefiori 3 Paper weight. Superb Antique Circa 1850 Baccarat Macedoine Scrambled Millefiori 3Paperweight. Baccarat Classical Period (1847). This is a stunning masterpiece. A magnificent, antique, circa 1850, Baccarat, Macedoine, (scrambled) Millefiori 3 paperweight with twin coloured Barbershop canes and lattacino. It features many different sized strips of cut canes that are neatly placed into a rough pattern to form a concave bed. The centre cane is a cobalt blue and white whorl cane with opened ended spiral, a true Baccarat. It also has the cobalt blue and coral red filigree twists set at right angles to one another, abutting in a casual mosaic, again another indication that this paperweight was made by Baccarat. The coloured canes have a real cloudy, moody look to them, further indication of Baccarat and finally the quite typically distinctive baccarat glass profile, that shows a curve that is somewhat flatter on the sides and doesn’t return very far at the base. This exquisite Baccarat paperweight is basically made up of five colours, cobalt blue, coral red, green, yellow and muslin white. Use To Hold Papers, Document Etc.
